Inditex is the world's largest fashion retailer, parent of Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull&Bear, and Bershka. Zara's fast-fashion model — design to store shelf in two weeks — revolutionized the industry. The company is headquartered in Arteixo, a small town in northwestern Spain, which is about as un-glamorous as fashion gets.

Retail sales through company-owned stores and e-commerce. Zara's speed advantage — tiny batches, rapid replenishment, minimal markdowns — generates industry-leading margins. They own much of their supply chain, from fabric sourcing to logistics.

Amancio Ortega opened the first Zara store in A Coruña, Spain in 1975. Inditex went public in 2001 and expanded to over 5,600 stores in 93 markets. Ortega, who started as a shop assistant, became one of the richest people in the world. His daughter Marta Ortega became chair in 2022.
