Vietnam is one of the world's great economic success stories โ a country of 100 million that went from one of the poorest on earth to a lower-middle-income manufacturing powerhouse in three decades. GDP is about $430 billion and has been growing at 6-7% annually. Vietnam is now the world's second-largest smartphone manufacturer (Samsung produces about half its global phones here), the largest cashew exporter, the second-largest coffee producer (after Brazil), and a major garment and footwear exporter. The country has benefited enormously from companies diversifying supply chains away from China โ the "China+1" strategy. Ho Chi Minh City is a frenetic commercial hub of 9 million, while Hanoi retains more traditional character. Vietnam's cuisine has gone global โ phแป shops are now everywhere from Paris to Portland.
Electronics (Samsung, Intel, LG), textiles, footwear, seafood, and coffee are the main exports. The US, China, Japan, and South Korea are the top trade partners. FDI has been massive โ over $20 billion annually in recent years. Vietnam has signed free trade agreements with the EU, UK, and most Pacific Rim countries. The dong has been gradually depreciating but remains relatively stable. The country's tech sector is growing rapidly, with VinFast (electric vehicles) and VNG (gaming/tech) gaining international attention. The state sector still accounts for about 30% of GDP.

Vietnam's Sฦกn ฤoรฒng Cave is the world's largest cave by volume โ it's so big it has its own weather system, with clouds forming inside. The country consumes more instant noodles per capita than any other nation. Vietnam's Cรน Chi Tunnels, a 250-km network used during the war, are now a major tourist attraction where visitors can crawl through sections of the original tunnels.
Vietnam is the biggest winner of the China+1 supply chain shift, and the growth trajectory is strong. The challenge is moving up the value chain from assembly to design and innovation. If Vietnam can develop its own tech champions, the sky's the limit.
