Malaysia is a Southeast Asian federation of 34 million with a $400 billion GDP split between Peninsular Malaysia and the Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak. The country has successfully diversified from tin and rubber to become a major electronics exporter — Penang is called the "Silicon Valley of the East" and produces about 8% of the world's semiconductors.
